Payment Policy and Billing Questions
In
order to better serve our patients, Metro Atlanta Gastroenterology has
enrolled in various insurance plans. It is the patients
responsibility to always check with his/her insurance to verify the
carrier reflects the physician as a participating provider.
While
we are pleased to be able to provide services to our patients, it is
extremely difficult for us to keep track of all the individual
requirements of each plan. Each one has different stipulations
regarding how often services may be rendered, where services may be
performed, and whether or not routine servies are covered.
Even
with the same insurance company, the plans differ depending upon what
type of contract your employer has negotiated.
Providing
quality medical care for our patients is our primary concern. We
are
more than willing to provide that care within your insurance contract
guidelines if you let us know each visit what those guidelines are.
Unfortunately,
if the patient does not inform us of any special requirements in
his/her contract and we subsequently order services (such as lab work,
hospitilization, or routine services) that are not covered, we or
the
selected medical facility will have no choice but to bill the patient
directly for those services. Payment for those services will be the
patient's responsibility.
Our
office obtains precertifications with the insurance carriers for our
patients on outpatient procedures our physicians perform.
However, a precertification
is not a guarantee of payment by insurance companies.
It simply means that the procedure meets certain medical criteria in
their guidelines. It is the patients responsibility to check
specific coverage guidelines under their plan. This can be done
by calling the number on the back of your insurance card.
